This is a cabinet card of my 3rd great-grandmother (on my maternal grandmother’s side), 𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮 𝗕𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗵𝗮𝘂𝘀, seated, with her youngest child, Oskar, standing next to her. She was born in Muhlendorf, Pomerania on April 25, 1829. The province of Pomerania belonged to Germany from 1815 until the end of the First World War in 1918. Muhlendorf is located about 120 miles east of Berlin and 130 miles west of Danzig. Wilhelmina married my 3rd great-grandfather, Karl Demmer, on October 15, 1845, and they had five children. Their oldest child, Gustav Demmer, is my 2nd great-grandfather. After Karl’s death, she remarried in Neukirchen, Labes, Pomerania on May 27, 1862, and had five more children with her second husband. This portrait was taken in 1901 by photographer Max Hintze at his studio in Stargard. Two years later, Wilhelmina passed away in Labes, Germany at the age of 74.
