My Dad sent me this old family portrait, taken more than a century ago, of my great-great-grandparents on my paternal grandmotherโs side – ๐ ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ผ๐ป ๐๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฑ๐ฒ๐ฟ and ๐ก๐ฎ๐ผ๐บ๐ถ โ๐ข๐บ๐ฎโ ๐ ๐ฎ๐๐ป๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฑ – and eight of their nine children. They lived in Eagle Bend, Minnesota.

My great-grandmother ๐ฆ๐ผ๐ฝ๐ต๐ถ๐ฎ (๐๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฑ๐ฒ๐ฟ) ๐๐ผ๐ต๐ป๐๐ผ๐ป is standing in the back row, third from the right. Jane was the oldest, born on March 21, 1879, and Vernon was the youngest, born on September 26, 1905. My great-granduncle William Crider (back row, third from the left) served in the Army with the 305th Field Artillery Regiment during World War I. He registered soon after the United States declared war on Germany in April of 1917 and was 23 years old when he enlisted. This photo was probably taken shortly before he departed for The Great War in 1918. He is seen here standing in the center, wearing his military uniform. It must have been a significant moment for the family and one worth capturing by a professional photographer.
